SMPD to respond to riot report… Scooters roar back… Historic Main St. storefront shattered
May 31 Report:Tomorrow night, City Council takes up the long-awaitedconsultant’s report on the May 31 riots, which blames SMPD for lapses in leadership, preparation, and response during and after the worst civil unrest in the City’s history.
The report by the OIR Group makes 44 recommendations for substantial change and singles out former Chief Renaud for particular criticism.
Council is expected to ask SMPD how they plan to implement the recommendations and also direct staff to perform “independent evaluation and public reporting” of the department’s progress. Read City Press Release.

Vandalism on Main:A vandalthrew a scooter through the art nouveau-style windowof Caro Bambino (formerly Paris 1900) at 2701 Main St, an official City landmark. A suspect was reported apprehended Friday night.
E-Scooters Return: E-scooters are making a rousing comeback in OP after a pandemic pause, with trips doubling since the start of the year. Eight companies have expressed interest in serving the City under a revised program. Local company, Bird, is promising technology to block riding on sidewalks.
No-Excuses Vaccinations: More than 57,000 Santa Monicans (70% of those 16+) have now received their vaccinations, one of the highest rates in the County. If you have not yet gotten your shot, many pharmacies in town have doses and the Dodger Stadium and Century City sites now accept walk-ins.
